Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers.
They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world.”
At the start of John chapter 4, a Samaritan woman has a life-changing encounter with Jesus. During their interaction, Jesus shares with her some pretty personal details of her life and then reveals to her that He is the Messiah. He speaks truth to her. Jesus so impacted this woman that she leaves her water pot by the well. She doesn’t bother to take the water to her home because she simply has to tell someone about this man. She goes into the city and tells everyone about her encounter with Jesus, posing the question “Could this be the Christ?”
As we can see in the verses above, many of the people believed in Jesus because of this woman’s story. God used her to tell others about Jesus, and her testimony is what initially drew people to Him. We can also see that not everybody believed right away. This woman was also an invitation for people to come and find out for themselves that Jesus truly is the “Saviour of the world”.
What about you and your life? If you have a personal relationship with Jesus, you have a testimony, a story, that you can share with people about your encounter with the Saviour of the world. Are you taking the opportunities that God gives you to open your mouth and talk about Jesus, or are you remaining silent?
Maybe you don’t want to offend someone, so you are keeping quiet. Perhaps you have had a negative encounter with someone when sharing about Jesus. Don’t let fear or bad experiences stop you from telling others the gospel of Christ. Rather be like the Samaritan woman and allow God to use you to draw people to Himself. Let your life be an invitation for others to come and meet the one who altered the course of your life forever. You will have another opportunity to share the Good News of Christ with someone. Make sure you take it.
