… We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will …so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work …
When you look at children one of their main motivations for doing almost anything is receiving praise! They love to be pleasing to their parents, their grandparents, uncles, aunts, anyone who will watch!
With my own daughter now 11 weeks old, every time she does something new, we can’t help but cheer and clap. When she rolled over for the first time we filmed it, showed everyone her rolling over, and boasted how amazing she is to have rolled so early, but most of all we delighted in her. We showed her instantly how pleased we were with her accomplishments!
You see, we put her on her tummy deliberately. We WANTED her to roll over. Once she did it just once, the praise she received showed her that this is a good thing to do! I’m supposed to be doing this! And the smiles she gave as a response showed us she LOVED to please us!
And then the rolling kept happening! Time and time again! Now every time she is put on her tummy she immediately rolls over and then BEAMS with joy, and looks straight to us to receive her praise!
You see, it’s built in us to want to please our parents!
It’s built in us to want to please our heavenly Father.
In this verse Paul says he is praying for the church to know God’s will so that they can please the Lord in every way, in bearing fruit in every good work!
Right here God is showing us, through His Word, what we can do to please Him!
We just ask Him what He wants in any given situation, and do it, and our Father is pleased with us!
As someone who loves achieving, I love how simple this is!
Ask God, do.
That’s all we need to please God! And He doesn’t make it hard for us to know His will, He wants us to know, so that we can bear much fruit!
