In John 2:23-25 (NLT) it says this:
“Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.”
When reading this verse something struck me for the first time in a big way. Jesus trusts me!
What do I mean? Well, here it says that people started to trust Jesus because of all his miraculous signs … but Jesus didn’t trust them as He knew what was going on in their hearts.
But when we carry on reading through these chapters, what happens is that Jesus starts chatting to certain people and tells them something amazing and then they react to it and spread his word. For example:
The Samaritan woman. Jesus shows who He is to her and half the town believes in Him – A bit of a revival takes place.
Nicodemus. Jesus tells him he has to be born again and later on when no one would dare to speak up against the other Pharisees he’s the one that speaks up and defends Jesus – That takes some boldness.
The man at the pool of Bethesda. Has not walked but Jesus says get up and walk and he does and gets healed and shows an amazing miracle and tells people who Jesus is – – That’s faith.
See, it says that Jesus knows what is in each person’s heart (the religious people and the crowd) … and he didn’t trust them. But I think Jesus saw what was in the hearts of those who responded to Him and knew they would act in faith, boldness and believe! I think Jesus knew what each of these people were capable of to see His kingdom grow in some way or another.
And relating it to us …. Jesus trusts you! He knows your heart and sees what a key you are to spreading His kingdom if it be by stepping out in faith, speaking out in boldness or having the strength to believe when things look impossible or whatever it maybe!
Wow …. Jesus knows your heart and trusts you!! Think about that for a moment – the guy that created the universe by speaking it into being trusts you to do and respond to do the things that he’s asking you to do.
This week, say to God “Thank you for knowing my heart and trusting me. Show me how to be trustworthy in the things you are giving me to do. Enable me to carry them out in the way you want me to do them to bring you more glory as your kingdom is spread through me at work, in my family or in my social life.”
Whatever it maybe this week show Him how trustworthy you are by carrying out His will in your life!
