A Change Of Name?
April 15th 2018 marked a significant day … World Harvest Bible Church became GoChurch!!
There are three instances in the Bible where God changed people’s names. He changed their names to help them grow in their faith, in order to see the vision that they had already been given become a reality, not changing direction but helping them to confess the future vision as a present reality. It is clear from the Bible that faith comes from hearing and hearing and hearing; God’s promises being spoken more than once. As we hear those promises we grow in faith as we learn to trust Him and believe His promises.
- Abram and Sarai received the promise of a land, becoming a great nation, tremendous blessing and an awesome reputation. As they walked out these promises, God worked with them, growing their faith by changing their names, getting them to confess the big vision he had for them. Abraham and Sarah: Father of Nations and Princess of the Multitudes. (Gen 17:5)
- Jacob had an encounter with God as he stepped back into the Promised Land and took hold of the promised inheritance. His new name Israel declared “he who prevails and overcomes with God”. It was time to take his rightful place knowing that God was with him. (Gen 32:22-32)
- Simon’s declaration of Jesus as the Christ/Messiah, God’s Son led Jesus to renaming him Peter meaning a rock cut from the bedrock, affirming Peter’s calling as an Apostle. (Matthew 16:16-18)
GoChurch is God’s new name for us, reaffirming the missional vision He gave us. Not a change of direction but an acceleration of the vision that God has already given us.
Go conveys the sense of urgency in Jesus’ command to GO into all the World and make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). To seek and save the lost. To rescue those perishing. To reach a hurt and dying world with God’s Word and His love. Everywhere we GO we are to be ready for those divine appointments.
Church – the Body of Christ, God’s family, our family, the vehicle through which God has determined to reveal himself to the world and make His wisdom known to the powers and principalities (Ephesians 3:10). Strong, vibrant, powerful and united. Something happens in the spiritual realms every time we meet together!
GoChurch is not just Manchester: we are part of something bigger. This year we are expanding from Manchester, Bradford and London planting new churches in Liverpool and Beirut, we are entering into a new phase of the ministry and multiplying our reach as we step out in obedience, taking hold of God’s promises for us by faith and declaring GO!
“GoChurch” … same vision … greater focused … more immediate … and easier to say!
