What Do You See?

I heard a question on New Year's Eve that resonated with me as we begin this new year: Imagine you are standing here in a year’s time, looking back—what would make you say, “Wow, this has been the best year”?

Like me, you’ve probably paused and thought of several things to do with family, friends, church, work, and even what’s happening in the world.

The thing is, if all we do is think about what could be, we don’t actually move forward.

Our Heavenly Father had a vision; He looked and saw what He wanted to create, and He spoke it into being. Imagine if He had just thought it—then we wouldn’t be here!

Romans 4:17 (NIV) says that He is “the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.”

There are some key words here: “saw” and “spoke”.

We also read in Hebrews 11:3 (NIV): “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”

Again, we read that the universe was “seen” and formed at God’s “command”.

He “saw” and “spoke”.

The Bible gives us further instruction in Habakkuk 2:2 (NIV):

“Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets, so that a herald may run with it.”

The NKJV says: “Write the vision…”

What’s your vision for this year? For the next five years? What do you see? Have you written it down? When you write it down, in a simple and clear way, it enables you to run with it. It enables you to take action.

GoChurch has a vision, and we have been running with this vision for several years. We have kept it simple so that even the youngest in our churches can say it. Here is our vision, what we see, and how we work it out:

We are a family of churches working together to reach the world.

A family of churches…
Our expectation is that this family will grow, through new churches being planted and existing churches looking for a family connection.

25 x 35: We believe that we will be a family of at least 25 churches by 2035.

A healthy family grows, looks out for one another, and shares both the celebration moments and the difficult times.

There is a huge sense that we are all in this together—that we are part of something bigger than just ourselves.

… working together…
We realise the vision is so big that we can’t achieve it alone. When we work together, we are strengthened. We can share resources, ideas, and plans.

… to reach the world.
Our vision has always been to bring in the harvest across the world by sharing the truth of the Word through His family of believers—the church.

The Great Commission
Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV):
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
