Excellence Is The Goal!

27 August 2021

A compass pointint to the word 'Excellence'

Have you ever heard this saying, “If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right!”

It’s a saying that is rooted in times past and in days gone by!  Yet I think is still pertinent to all of us today.

That saying is declaring this: that we should do everything with the attitude and action of EXCELLENCE.

It’s proclaiming forth that every single thing that we do, should be done to the very best of the grace, ability and anointing that God has given to us!  Whether what we do is highly esteemed by society or whether it’s regarded as something as trivial and unimportant, whatever it may be, we should do it with excellence.

1 Corinthians 10:31 in the Bible says:

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

EVERY SINGLE THING WE DO, WE SHOULD DO IT SUCH A WAY THAT IT BRINGS GLORY TO GOD!

We bring glory to God when we live in EXCELLENCE!

The word excellence means possessing outstanding quality or superior merit;

extraordinary; superior; remarkably good.

Remarkably good … that really stood out to me! When I looked up the definition of excellence, it was almost like those two words jumped off the page!

I had a picture of a megaphone, with a voice being amplified at full volume crying out to me saying “Pay attention Mathew to these two words ... remarkably good! Pay attention these words are important!”

Everything God does is REMARKABLY GOOD!

It brought to my mind what God said in the beginning of creation when He spoke forth and dirt, dust, bugs, water, leaves etc. all come into being. God said that it is was GOOD!  And then He created us ... mankind ... and He said that it was VERY GOOD!

God was declaring that everything He had done, it was done in the spirit and action of EXCELLENCE!

The opposite of excellence is mediocre! The word mediocre means of only ordinary or moderate quality; barely adequate: not satisfactory; poor; inferior

Mediocre does not describe God in any way, shape or form. It’s the opposite of who He is and how He does things!

Do I choose to be excellent or mediocre?

We all have a choice!  We can choose to live life in the spirit of excellence or on the other hand the spirit of mediocrity!

One follows the example of our Father in heaven and leads to a life of satisfaction, fulfilment, and achievement. The other is contrary to His ways and leads to a life of disappointment, dissatisfaction, and depression.

I don’t believe any person can be content in life when they know that they are living in mediocrity! There have been times in my life – when I’ve looked at something I had done and realized that I hadn’t done that with excellence. It really does bother me when this occurs!  It spurs me on to make sure that next time I aim for and hit excellence

Please note – there is a huge difference between excellence and perfectionism! One is of God and from the spirit, the other is a work of the flesh and leads to self-condemnation!

HOW TO LIVE IN EXCELLENCE

  1. Understand that excellence is a choice
  2. Recognize that everything you do is done for God’s glory
  3. Realize that you are meant to follow your Fathers example – He is excellent so you should be excellent
  4. Acknowledge the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will never ever lead you into mediocrity
  5. Grasp the fact, that those people you connect with, will either enable or hinder you in striving for excellence
  6. Know that excellence is habit that must be continually renewed. Excellence is not a one-time event in our lives, it is a daily pattern that we must consistently apply

LET US RISE TO THE STANDARD THAT OUR FATHER SETS BEFORE US! LET US RISE TO EXCELLENCE!
