Follow Me!

Ever had to drive somewhere and you really didn’t know how to get there?

There have been so many times over these past years when I’ve jumped into my car, driven for hours on end, knowing my destination but having very little idea of how exactly to get there, what streets to travel down, what landmarks to look out for etc 

Yet I’ve always ended up at the exact destination that I wanted to get to. How?

I have a navigational app on my phone that tells me how to get to my journeys end. All I have to do is put in my destination, let the app compute the course, fastest route etc and voila, it does all the work for me!

It shows me where to go – and all I have to do is FOLLOW!

I use Google maps, but there are many other navigational apps out there that you can use - Waze, Bing, Apple Maps etc.  But whatever navigational app you use, they all tell you a basic message.

IF YOU FOLLOW ME, I WILL GET YOU TO YOUR DESTINATION

It doesn’t matter if you personally don’t know how to get there, as long as you follow me, I will ensure you arrive at the proper place! Now it takes a degree of faith to follow that arrow on your nav app.

The app is actually saying to us: trust me, put your faith in me.

You don’t know where I’m taking you BUT when you by FAITH follow me, I’ll get you to the right place.

On a sidenote – is there anyone who still uses maps. I remember when we first arrived into the U.K in 2006 and we drove down from Manchester to Dorset using physical maps. It was an interesting drive!

But I digress!

Now in John Chapter 21 v19 Jesus turns to one of His followers called Peter and says to him, FOLLOW ME

Jesus was saying put your FAITH IN ME, TRUST ME. FOLLOW ME.

And I’ll get you the right and proper place at the right time.

I will ensure that you arrive at your God appointed destination.

That’s the message that we all have to realize!  If we follow Jesus, even if we may not know the exact road to travel, what the landmarks may look like etc we will ALWAYS arrive at the right place.

All we have to do is FOLLOW!

FOLLOWING JESUS HAS SO MANY BENEFITS AND NO NEGATIVES!

When we decide to obey Jesus, and obey His call to FOLLOW ME! When we decide to put our trust in HIM!

It takes you to a destination of

PEACE with God

JOY unspeakable

FREEDOM from fear and sin

HOPE everlasting

a NEW AND SECURE IDENTITY

CONFIDENCE in our value and worth

STRENGTH to overcome all obstacles

It takes you to a destination of ETERNAL LIFE – i.e. we know that we are going to heaven!

And that’s the greatest destination that we should be looking to go to.

Jesus is saying to us all – TRUST ME, PUT YOUR FAITH IN ME

FOLLOW ME!
