From Amazement To Mission

06 January 2026

When we read these passages in Mark about Jesus performing miracles, it’s so important to pause, slow down, and really think about what was happening.

Put yourself in the place of the blind man, the paralysed man, the parent of the girl who had died. Imagine what it would have been like to encounter Jesus in those moments.

There’s a reason these stories were recorded in Scripture for us to read 2,000 years later, and it’s not just because they make for good stories.

Every miracle Jesus performed had multiple purposes.

Why Jesus Performed Miracles

First, they addressed an obvious need: blindness, paralysis, sickness, even death.

Second, they modelled something for His disciples! Which includes us, since these moments were recorded in scripture for us to read. They reveal God’s heart and His will for people to be made well.

Third, they showed the disciples (and us) what is possible through the power of God.

Fourth, miracles ignited something in those who experienced them. A natural response to witnessing or experiencing something that incredible is to tell others. Good news demands to be shared.

Fifth, as we move into Mark 6, we see a shift, from amazement as mere observers of God’s work to becoming His hands and feet in the world.

From Observing to Being Sent

We have a responsibility to carry Jesus to this lost and dying generation. We can’t allow fear to sideline us. Instead, we are called to keep moving forward, filled with, and relying on, the same power that raised Christ from the dead!

In Mark 6, Jesus sends His disciples out and asks them to go to an extreme: not taking anything they would normally rely on. No money, no food, no extra supplies... just complete dependence on the Lord.

That kind of trust matters.

As a side note, the same faith that says, “I’m going to put my entire trust in the Lord for salvation,” is the same faith that moves mountains and sees the dead raised. Every believer who has the faith to be saved, can have the faith to see miracles occur through them!

Living in the Power of the Gospel

Don’t let the lies of the enemy render you ineffective in what God has called us all to do: go and make disciples.

You are an overcomer because of what Christ has done!
Pray for that person, invite them to church, share the Good News!

And I believe in 2026 as we begin to rely more on the Holy Spirit, and operate in Faith rather than fear, we will begin to see even more testimonies, just like those we read about in Mark 6:13!
