Unless Someone Tells Them

When you hear the word “discipleship”, what comes to mind?  Maybe you think about learning to pray and spending time in God's word.  Or maybe walking by faith is the first thing that comes to mind.  If you thought either of these things, then you would be right.  They are part of our discipleship journey.  But there is another aspect to this journey, and it's outward focused.  We are called to be disciples who make disciples; this means we are called to share the good news of the gospel with those around us.

Sometimes evangelism can be a scary thing.  We can often make excuses or hope that someone else will tell the people in our lives about God.  But if we aim to be Christlike, we need to have exactly the same heart for the lost.

When we read Romans chapter 10, it tells us that the message of salvation is for everyone.  Romans 10:14 always challenges me to tell others about God.  It says, "But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him?  And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him?   And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?"

For people to call on God, they first have to hear about Him, and that is where we come in.  It is our job to tell others about Him so they can have the opportunity to believe in their hearts and confess with their mouths that Jesus is Lord.

When we find something good, don't we want to share it with others?  Salvation in Christ is the best gift you have ever received, and it is something you should be telling others about whenever you get the chance.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your sacrifice for me on the cross.  Help me to see opportunities in my life and give me the boldness to speak up and share the gospel with people.

Family:

One of the first things we should do is pray for people in our lives who don't yet know Christ.  Praying for the lost helps us catch God's heart for them and allows us to focus outside of ourselves.  As a family, have each person pick someone in their life that doesn't know Jesus and start praying for them every day. Remember, how can they believe unless someone tells them?
