Activate your faith

01 May 2020

Wine glasses on a table and someone is pouring white wine into one of them

The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.” “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

‭‭John‬ ‭2:3-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Oh, my word!!! I love this scripture. OK, I have read it 1,000 times but just this time it stuck out to me.

I have a funny picture of Mary telling Jesus to do something, Jesus saying it’s not my time, Mary turning round to Jesus going “mmmmhhhmmm” (in a ‘mumma’ like fashion) and then turning to the servants, “just do what he tells you to do”, then she turns round and carry’s on watching the wedding event.

I’m sure it didn’t happen like that but that’s where my mind went!

We know Jesus only did what God told him to do. So why did Jesus pretty much say no to what Mary asked of Him, then, do the miracle!?

Mary activated faith! Now I don’t know about you but if my mum says jump, I say how high!!!! There is no question about it! She says it … I do it! Mums have an authority but that is not what happened here.

Mary saw a need and knew that her son could meet that need. By not taking no for an answer and turning to the servants, she activated faith. God is moved by faith not need. Jesus responded to her faith.

Later on, in Jesus ministry we see that Jesus is moved by compassion but all the time He is looking for faith.

At the moment we are surrounded by a world in hurt, loss, confusion and fear. How can we not be driven by the same compassion that Jesus had?

How much more will Jesus respond to people in today situations than to a wedding feast running out of wine!!!

How much more will he meet a need when we ask in faith because we know who He is and what His character is like!?!?

No matter what the situation you are going through right now, if it’s the best or worse … just know Jesus sees … and is rejoicing with you, or having compassion for you or those around you.

All He is waiting for is us to be filled with compassion when we see a need, and to pray with faith, calling on him to change the situation.

Be encouraged! If you’re going through something hard know that God cares a lot more for you than he does for a wedding party!!!

He is able to do a miracle for you today, just ask and believe as Mary did.

Response:

1). Ask for God’s compassion
2). Bring your need/the worlds need to him
3). Believe in faith that it is done because of who He is
