Walking in the Light

27 November 2020

“If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7 NIV)

What a statement! What a truth! Relationship, purity and real life are all the product of a life lived in the light, on show for the whole world to see.

Peter warns us of mockers, lying prophets, religious teachers, spiritual predators, brute beasts who cause divisions, release disunity, promote destructive even deviant ideas that give no direction. They are easy to spot if you are rooted in Christ. They don’t acknowledge Jesus but have their own agendas. The spirit of Antichrist operates in them.

John reminds us that God has better words to speak about us! God’s Word shining into our hearts and affecting us:

  1. We are God’s children!

No questions! No doubts! The Spirit himself testifies and confirms with our spirit that we are God’s children (Romans 8:16). Our confession of Jesus as Lord transformed us. Judgement, punishment and destruction were removed. Mercy, forgiveness and new life were released. We became God’s children. That happened and the devil cannot undo that truth (Romans 8:38-39). We walk in the light because we are God’s children.

  1. Purity is our lifestyle

We don’t deny our past, we die to our past. We don’t deny our sin, we die to sin (Romans 6:11). We die to sin when we confess our sin, then we receive forgiveness, cleansing and purity (1 John 1:7). Our Heavenly Father wants us pure so we reflect His light (2 Corinthians 3:18) blameless and pure in a wicked or warped world (Philippians 2:15).

Purity in our love, thinking and doing right to everyone around us. Purity in our faith, believing and acting upon God’s Word all the time.

We walk in the light because we are pure and spotless.

  1. Love is the product

When we were born again, we had heart transplant surgery. Our old stony unloving heart was replaced with a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26) and God poured His love into our hearts (Romans 5:5). That’s how we know we are born again, we love people (1 John 3:14). God is love and those who live in love, live in God (1 John 4:16). We are not afraid to believe better things of ourselves or other people because we know that He who began a good work in us will see it to completion (Philippians 1:6). Love is who I am. I am patient, kind, respectful, humble, forgiving, protective, trusting and hopeful (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

We walk in the light because we are people of love.

This week is a great week to walk in the light. Every week is a good week to walk in the light. We are to have this confidence daily; I have fellowship with God and His people! I like the light!
